A Survivor Alone In Brazil
The Brazilian government is attempting to protect the last surviving member of an uncontacted tribe that was massacred by settlers:
Sole survivor of Amazon tribe is most isolated man on Earth

(That's not his picture, that's a picture of a different person.)

I tried to read some of the comments, but couldn't endure the stupidity.
The story of the woman "rescued" from her island was heartbreaking. She wasn't rescued, she was captured. Either the missionaries killed her, as they killed millions of indigenous peoples for Rockefeller and the big industrial interests, or once removed from her home she lost the will to live.
I wonder what the holes in the huts are for. Not too long ago I read about a storm that blew down tens of thousands of trees in the Amazon--perhaps it is a shelter from storms like that? A way to trap animals that wander into the hut?
Of course he must miss his people, but he's not lonely in the sense that a "citified" person would be lonely. He is a part of nature and he is surrounded by the little that is left of it. He lost his human relatives, but he still has his creature relatives.
The poor, brainless, brainwashed, domesticated captive slaves of civilization don't understand that they're imprisoned and that he is still free.
Of course he doesn't want to give his precious knowledge of life, health, and nature to those who are bent on destroying life, health, and nature. He'd rather fight and die.
I hope the Brazilian government can protect him. Let him live out his years before they destroy the tiny remnant of peace and freedom that is his home.
It would sure be nice if some version of a technological weapon destroyed everything and everyone civilized in Brazil and he survived in a hole in his hut and emerged to inherit the country.
I guess I'm dreaming.....

The man who was...
Photographed is beautiful :) Regarding the last man of this nation ...My wish is that I could magically bring us into his heart and world... magically undo all the damage done to us all and allow us to feel... no one would want to come back to this horrific nightmare.
Sadly... I have no magic.
Thank you for this story
Amazing. Yes, I hope he is protected. The disregard of humans by humans is so overwhelming. How many humans does it take to protect one man?
Alone but not lonely for he is more able to commune as nature and not separate from it. I like how you described that Folkie.
I wonder when and how I stopped being indigenous. I wonder if I could be again, if I ever was.
I sat in a medical lobby today, waiting to see the Doctor about my injured knee. And I overheard the people next to me completely berate the"illegal immigrant" using all "our services". It did not occur to them that we were sitting in a completely sterile environment, our needs being met, with not a single "illegal immigrant" in sight. No...the "illegals" probably were at the cotton gin, the orchard, the vegetable fields assuring these "legal" women would have clothes to get dressed in and have a breakfast of nutritious food before heading out the door to go see the Doctor.
I bet this solitary man wonders who all these "illegal immigrants" are surrounding his home.
